Bad PCM and Dealer, need input
Bad PCM and Dealer, need input
My 01 F150 started acting up about two months ago. It would start idling low then high and then die and would not crank back up. During the rough idling, all the dash gauges would flutter as well. Once cranked, it would start revving high on its own. So after the truck dies and leaves my wife stranded, I had it towed in to the closest Ford dealership. I discussed what was going on with the truck and told him that we had this problem last year with the truck and the dealer said that it was loose connection at the PCM. So I tell the service advisor to check the PCM first for any loose wiring or connections. He calls back and tells me that the battery is bad and several sensors needed changing including idle air control valve, and transmission temp and range sensors. I questioned him several times if he was sure that this was what caused the truck to act up and he assured me that it was so I tell him to change these out. A couple days later he tells me the truck is fixed and the bill is over $900! I am pissed but pick the truck up. A little over a week goes by and the truck begins to act up the same way as before and dies again. I have it towed back to the same Ford dealership and they had the truck for a full week and could not duplicate the problem. I get the truck back and after two weeks the truck acts up again and dies in the driveway. Now I am really pissed and have it towed back to the same dealership. I am expecting that they help me out since this truck has been towed to them three times and I have already sunk over $1000 into fixing it without it actually being fixed. They call and tell me that the PCM is bad and needs changing for a total of over $700. I was absolutely furious and told them I expected more from their customer service. After hassling with the service advisor, I was able to get them to install and program the PCM for free, but I still had to buy the PCM. Do you think this is fair or should they provide the PCM as well? Also, does this problem sound like a bad PCM? I don’t want to get a new PCM put in and the truck continues to act up. Please offer your input. Thanks.
