I have a 2002 f150 S/C 5.4 auto. I just finished installing a new transmisson
last night. I went to start it up and everything was normal, except for its ability to start it never clicked, moaned nothing. I checked the ignition soleniod and found it to be grounding out i bought a new one and still nothing. All the fuses are good. I can use a screwdriver to start it if i bypass the switch. Not what i really had in mind to start this thing all the time. I was wondering if anyone else has or had this problem. Thanks

 

What do you mean by grounding out?

First thing to check, get a second person to turn the key to see if you have signal power at the solenoid.

 

I got thinking about it today at work and maybe there might be something wrong with the neutral safety switch?

 

I mean that the signal post is common to ground

no there is no signal power to the solenoid

 

Hold the key in the START position and slide the shift lever from PARK through N to D and see if the starter engages somewhere out of the correct position.

The switch on the tranny, properly called the DTR switch, is your most likely problem, whether due to misadjustment, defect, or a bad connection.
