Dome light and bed light
Dome light and bed light
I have a 1990 F150 XLT Lariat. Three problems pretty much arose at the same time:
- Ignition cylinder became sticky to turn and now fails to start the engine. Battery is fine as all lights come on.
- Dome light stays on when doors are shut (I've read elsewhere here that WD 40 works on the door latches - is the the same for a 1990 model)?
- The bed light won't turn off (actually I could never figure out how to turn it on in the first place).
Are these problems connected? I'm replacing the ignition cylinder but is there anything else I need to check?
Thanks

Your door hinges are worn. Open the L door all the way, grab the pin switch with a pair of pliers, and pull it until the brass sleeve is fully extended from the nut (it takes some effort). Then close the door and it'll self-adjust. To see what I mean, click my signature link & look in the Doors album. That shows how to do it with the switches REMOVED, but it can be done with them installed.
When you have time, track down some replacement hinges, or at least a bushing kit from a parts store. There are a few threads about it on FSB, so search there if you need more info.
