2007 PSD 6.0 belt tensioner
2007 PSD 6.0 belt tensioner
Replacing a 2007 diesel alternator. How do you release the tension on the belt tensioner? I assume the tensioner is the double pulley system below the alternator. Do I have to remove parts to get to the tensioner?
Thanks

You didn't say if single or dual alternator---here is single

Removal and Installation
NOTE: Single generator is shown; primary generator on the dual generator vehicle is similar.
1. Disconnect the batteries.
2. Remove the cooling fan.
3. Remove the nut and position the generator B+ terminal aside.
o To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) .
4. Disconnect the generator electrical connector.
5. Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise and remove the drive belt from the generator pulley.
6. Remove the 3 bolts and the generator.
o To install, tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) .
7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
And here is Dual

Removal and Installation
NOTE: This procedure applies to the secondary generator of the dual generator system.

Thanks OnBelay. I like how Item #2 says "Remove cooling fan" as if there's nothing to it!!! This job took me about 4 hours and I busted my Craftsman 3/8" drive torque wrench. That was the only wrench I could get on the Tensioner with a 1/2" drive adaptor. I had to use a cheater bar on the torque wrench and it busted the adjusting head off. So much for saving the installation costs!!!
I wish it had the dual alternators so I wouldn't have had to do the job. I replaced the single 110 with a 200 amp.
Thanks again!!
