It's hard to say, since you didn't put your truck's specs anywhere in your post or your profile.

Some people think, and some manufacturers will tell you, that since you fried the sockets, that's all you need. The truth is that you need the entire harness to run that kind of wattage. Your socket(s) ususally melt first because they're the weakest link in the OEM system when you start drawing that kind of amperage. DO NOT just replace the sockets. You'll end up further weakening the OEM system by adding three more (lousy) connections where you splice in the socket end.

So where do you find those Heavy Duty Harnesses? If you do a little search in this forum, you'll find that it's been discussed several times before.

You are right, but I only replaced the sockets and I haven't had any problems since. That's not to say that I never will have any problems, but so far, so good.

With 80/100 watt bulbs, you'll be finding that next weak link fairly quickly. Actually, you can go hunting for it yourself. Leave the headlights (preferably the high beams) on for a few minutes with your ignition switch (and engine) off. Try grabbing your harness at various points. I believe you'll feel the next weak link somewhere there. It will be right where you dropped the harness and screamed bloody murder. Remember, your headlight switch is part of this system too and they have a habit of clutching their little chests after a relatively short period of abuse.

MFS is between the 2. That would be the next place, if the pins in the MFS connector are not already discolored from the additional load.
Not something to go tearing into, but something to keep in mind if your headlamps, fog lamps ( if factory versions ), turn signals or brake lights.

I'm assuming this was directed toward me, and I just wanted to clarify that I am using regular "stock" bulbs. When I bought the truck the headlight sockets were fried. I guess whoever owned it before had tried to use a higher wattage bulb. I replaced the sockets and have had no other problems since then. I should have said that before.

Oops. 98 F150 XLT 4.6. I put stock bulbs in, which work fine, but the driver's side is cooked from the higher wattage bulbs. I'd like to go back to those with some different wiring. Any yes, ouch, extemely HOT next to the plug with the high wattage bulb! As you know, all the wires are bundled together, so to re-wire the entire assembly would take some work.

What do I do???

This harness I think uses the passenger side bulb connector.

This installs 2 relays to the battery, with new sockets, and 12 AWG ( maybe 14 AWG ) for the connection to the bulbs.

http://www.puredieselpower.com/catal...ade-p-117.html

This would solve your problem for the toasted harness, along with being able to run the larger size bulbs.

The 2 things I did with it.

1. Changed the fuseable links to fuse sockets, so if I needed to, I could replace them on the side of the road.

2. I lengthened the driver's side ground wire, so it was not so tight to the ground lug inside the engine compartment, the lug on the inner fender wall.

good luck

yeah you can get the heavy duty harness from www.importvision.com, i bought there lightning style clear with projectors headlights and they came with the new harness its a new complete harness with 2 relays and it uses one of the stock headlight socket to actually turn the headlights low beam and high beams on, its all plug n play, it will actually have the hook up for the 9005 style bulb if you don`t have projectors, and its has the wires you run to the battery with ring terminals, its a easy install.
