both low beams out

1998 Lariat V8, 75000 miles. This morning neither low beams would come on. The high beams work fine, as do the parking lights. Same result either with manual on or with auto light switch. I have looked at both fuse panels and pulled everything that refers to lights. All look good. Nothing else is affected from what I can tell. Don't believe in coincidences like both burning out at the same time. Any help??

While you may not believe in it ( and why not, both run the same amount of time, it can happen ) have you checked the bulb connector with a meter or test light ?

Also, when you say all [fuses] look good, is this a visual only, or did you try replacing one of them. There are 2 fuses, 1 for each low beam in addition to the one that powers the MFS for both the low and the high beams. A Visual look might not tell you too much ( fuses don't always blow right in the center area ).

Thanks for the reply. Fuses and bulbs tested OK. Turned out it was the cowling over the MFS coming loose and shorting out. Replaced. Problem solved.
