Anyone hate the auto door lock feature?
Anyone hate the auto door lock feature?
I sure do!!
I have a 2002 SCrew and use the truck around the "farm" quite a bit.
Is there any way to disable the automatic door locking feature?
I don't need it. I don't want it. I WANT TO KILL IT.
NOTE: I want to keep the power lock feature though.
Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with my truck

Oops.
The truck is a 2003 and the manual directs me to the dealer for the change.
The local dealer wants $25 to make the change.

Computer engine control is good but these computer controls on everything is ridiculous.
Is there any I can change this setting without the dealer?

Courtesy of Buschman:
1. Turn the ignition key to ON.
2. Press the power door unlock control three times.
3. Turn the ignition key from ON to OFF.
4. Press the power door unlock control three times.
5. Turn the ignition back to ON. The horn will chirp.
6. Press the unlock control, then press the lock control. The horn will chirp once if autolock was deactivated or twice (one short and one long chirp) if autolock was activated.
7. Turn the ignition to OFF. The horn will chirp once to confirm the
procedure is complete.

If that method doesn't work and you have an outer keypad, try this one:
1. key off
2. close all doors
3. enter 5-digit entry code
4. press and hold 3/4 key. While holding, press the 7/8 key
5. release the 3/4 key
6. release the 7/8 key
The horn will chirp once when the system has been successfully deactivated. The horn will chirp twice (one short and one long chirp) when the system has been successfully reactivated.
If you don't have an outer keypad, what the he** are you waiting for? Put one in before you lock yourself out.

Sanppylips, Did you add your keypad? I've been considering this mod on my '99 and was just wondering how difficult it was. Does everything just plug and play or did you have wire the keypad in? Thanks in advance--DIY

Go to http://www.svtlightnings.com/ , click on "How to" Click on "Keyless keypad". Read up on it.
To answer your questions:
1. No, but will be soon.
2. Looks easy enough.
3. XLT's and up are already wired

I'm not a fan. If it hadn't locked the doors in the first place, I wouldn't have this issue, hence the reason I disable it.
Sorry. I get it now.
I never had that problem. I'm single with no kids.
So am I... But I dated a woman with a 3-year-old for a couple of years, and she had a niece that was two... I used to pick them up from day care periodically.
But even being single I hated it... In the Explorer and the F-150 I have, they only have the autoLOCK feature, not the Unlock. When the Ex was two weeks old, I had an ultimate slurpee flop out of the useless cupholder in the center console of the Ex.... and, of course, it rolled directly to the passenger side door, completely out of reach, and the lid popped off upon impact with the passenger door. So I whip into the first drive, slam it into park, bolt around to the passenger side only to find the door was locked, which, of course, resulted in the same one-man Chinese fire-drill and a permanent brown coke syrup stain in the nice new beige carpet.
Needless to say, I deactivated it right then and there!!
