Center Console Lights Out
Center Console Lights Out
On my ' 05 FX4, the center console lights are out on my Shift (P R N D 2 1). The owners manual says to take it to the dealer (which is the last thing I want to do). Any suggestions?

Try pulling the trim panel ( cup holders, et all ) up. Best to use a body trim puller. If you are very careful, and putty knife wrapped in a rag should work ( but is a lot more damaging, if you slip ).
Open the console lid.
At the trim line where the color of the console changes to the silver'ish trim piece on top, put the trim puller in there, twist the trim puller clock wise ( spreading the gap ) and you can get your hand in to pull up on this ( again cup holders and the panel around to the black line on the shift is a single piece.
Lay on the driver seat, and look at the side of the shifter. The bulb holder should be right there ( I think it is a blue and black wire, the blue might be blue with a stripe, don't recall right now ).
I did not pull it out, but it looked to be a real PITA to grip and remove.
Check the bulb.
As for searching the net for diagrams, and checking the fuses, that is about worthless for a suggestion. This is the same circuit as the dash illumination, so if your dash lights work, it is not that.
