digital compass

does any body know if digital compass/auto dimming mirror off of an explorer will work on a 97 f150?

I'm not terribly sure about the mirror swap. I suppose you'd just have to get power up to it.

It's just a 12V accessory, like a radar detector or fog lights. It'll work on anything - even a boat. I put them in everything I own, and friends'/family members' cars.

I'm adding a Gentex compass, temp mirror to my truck. It came off a 99 Suburban. I bought the mirror and sensor off of ebay for about $50 shipped. I wired it today, and it works fine. The questions are: does it get hooked to a key on hot and does it need to be fused? What amp?

If you want it to turn off when the key is off, then yes: key-switched. The smallest blade fuse you can find is plenty. It should never pull more than 1A, but 3A is probably the lowest. Or you could just tie it directly to a stock circuit that's already fused, like the switched power to the instruments (usually R/Y).
