I NEED HELP!!! (Battery? Alternator?)
Well, I was driving down the road and all of the sudden my headlights dimmed. When I got home, I turned the truck off and then tried to start it again and it would not start and showed basically no battery voltage. So I bought a new 1000 cranking amp battery and also removed my alternator and had it tested (the people at AutoZone tested it 3 times and they said that it passed every time). After putting everything back together and taking it out for a drive, the battery is still slowly going down. Does anybody have any recommendations on what I should do? Are there any cables that predominantly are faulty or corrode? The battery cables don’t look to be corroded. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
use a 12V test light to check for a draw on the battery:
1. remove negative terminal from battery
2. install 12v test light from ground terminal to physical chassis ground of the vehicle.
if you have something that is drawing power the test light will be lit.
please note that your radio memory does draw a small amount so the light may be dimly light .. the best way to see this for yourself is with the light attached to the battery, open and close a door .. you will see the light get brighter and dimmer as you do this... the interior light may or may not come on so don't worry if it doesn't.. if you do have a short .. then go to your fuse panel and start pulling fuses until the light dims out.. you now have figured out what section of the vehicle your short is in... please also rem. that if you have an underhood light that will also make the test light come on so disconnect it so you don't get confused.. hope this helps.. oZ
