Air Bag light flash code 27

I recently purchased a used 1999 F-150. The truck had previously been in an accident but was repaired before I purchased it "as is". The passenger air bag deploy shut-off switch masked a problem that I now see manifested as an Air Bag Light Flash Code (LFC) of 27 when starting the truck. Can someone help with a decode of what this LFC means? THANKS

Code 27 involves a passenger side deactivation lamp inoperative or short to ground.
Dealer scanner DTC query should bring a code B1882 or B1890.
Remove battery power before working on the system.

Do a few searches on how to change the bulb. It's a simple procedure that doesn't require disconnecting the battery.

Thanks guys! I found a thread with the lamp p/n and install instructions. Here is the meat of the thread....

To clarify:

The audio alarm is a backup to the primary SRS warning lamp in the instrument cluster. When the AIRBAG lamp in the dash burns out the audio tone sounds to alert the driver there is a fault. FWIW, this is in your owner's manual.

Replacement PAD bulbs are available from Radio Shack for a buck or two. 272-1141. Requires soldering.

when you remove the switch assembly from the back of the panel, it does come apart but in my case not easily, I had to use a few of those tiny screw drivers and still broke one of the clips.. no a big deal as it still snapped back together tight.. The Soldering was easy if you've ever done it before. The new bulb has about an inch of extra wire with it, which I didn’t clip off, I just stripped the ends off a bit longer, un-soldered the original bulb, removed all the old solder so I could get the wires through the holes in the circuit board and re-soldered the wires in place, added a spot of hot glue to hold the bulb in the approx same location and position as the original bulb, removed the yellow cover off the old bulb, put it on the new one, put everything back together and tried it out.. worked like a champ...

QUOTE=mikecer]Hey Steve,

Thanks for the part # from Raido Shack, picked up the bulb today, $1.41 including tax... spent 5 min soldering it in added a small bit of hot glue to hold the bulb in place and I was in business..

light works now, and no more flashing light on the dashboard for the airbag..
$1.41 was a lot better than spending $70.00

Thanks again everyone..[/QUOTE]

works!

I was having that exact problem and could not figure out what was wrong with it for the life of me. Your explanation was perfect and that little $1 light bulb was all it took. Thanks for the advice!

Question Similar Problem - Code 27

2003 F150 4.2L M/T

I had a similar problem. To be honest I don't know if the problem that I am seeing now (code 27) is the same as the one for which I took it to the dealer.

Basically I forgot to disconnect my battery before working on the radio. After which I had some fault code (didn't think to capture what it was - just noticed that it would blink when starting the truck).

Took it to the dealer thinking that they would just reset it. They charged me $100 to tell me the passenger control module was faulted and that it would cost me $400+ to replace. I found services on the Internet that will reset the module if you send it in for less that $100, but I also saw that the code flashing is related to the passenger SRS light being out so I held off on sending in the module for a fix until I resolved the light issue.

Was going to replace the bulb to see if that would clear the code. Looked at the bulb and it looked fine. Plugged it all back up, reconnected the battery, and it now illuminates. Guessing that Ford didn't plug it all the way in or something when they had it. However, the 27 code is still flashing. How do I clear it?

If there happens to be another problem won't the new code flash instead of the 27 once it has been cleared?

Thanks.

Wow! This list is magic. After I posted the message above I had to go out. So I started up the truck and low and behold the warning light no longer stayed on. You guys are awesome!

I guess I just needed to restart the truck again because I definitely didn't do anything. I'm sure it was the positive vibes from the list. Thanks anyway.

Sincerely,
