Question Windshield wiper problem

Ok well im not sure if i came to the right forum topic for this one because i have no idea what kind of problem it is...

I live in kansas city and we recently got some winter weather...my mother hates driving in that **** so i was going to see how her 2002 ford explorer limited drove in the snow...after letting it melt for a few days there was a minimal amount of snow on the winshield...thinking how i always did it in my 93 pickup, i just turned the wipers on

rather than it just throwing the snow right off, i heard something kind of clunk or something and the wipers didnt move...

so now when i turn on the wipers i can still hear the motor going but the wipers arent moving...i was thinking it would have been pretty common and maybe a belt had just jammed up and slipped off...any ideas?

once again its a 2002 ford explorer limited edition w/ the issue

was there alot of ice build up around the bottom of the arm? b.c the motor has enough power to clear the window, but doesnt have enough power to break a whole chunk of ice/snow out of the way.

Possibly stripped the splines on arm, or broke the mounting bolts for the motor, since you say you can still hear the motors running

you should be able to take the arms off to see if the splines were stripped- go out there, bend the arm to its vertical position, and then grab the base, pull up- should slide off relatively easy, unless of course it is frozen on-- to see if the motor mounts came off would require taking off the tray at the base of the window that the wipers are coming out of- probably held on by 2-4 screws per side

bummer- well i suppose if you do a little more investigating, find out if that single part can be replaced, or if you need a whole new motor assembly- the dealership may be your next stop

is it the splines on the arm or the motor that are stripped?

I have 99 F-150 and have the same problem as described above. I have taken the arm off and discovered the splines on both the motor transmission and the wiper arm are stripped. I can get a new wiper arm cheap but the motor transmission is around $125.00 from dealerhip. Can anyone give me any other sources to go to....seems very expensive!!! Also, is there just a few screws that hold the motor transmission on? Is it a difficult job to replace myself? Thanks for all of your help, I appreciate it!
