5.4L Alternator Upgrades???

I have a 01 Supercrew and my Lights dim at night when the bass in my truck hits. I already have a Capacitor and Optima Battery. I was wondering what my options are as far as upgrading the current alternator. I think its a 95 amp alternator right now, would a Alternator out of a 5.4L Superduty or Expedition bolt right up?? I know that the 5.4 Had like 3 different AMP ratings, like 95, 110, 115 depending on the rig it came in. will this hurt to swap? is it possiable?

good question whitepony
heres one for you, how many watts are you running and is it a good cap?
1 or 2 fared

i have an 06 fx4 with about 2800 watts and with a nice bass hit of about 50-60hz the lights dim a bit. im going to add another (dry) batt with around 800 crank amps so i dont think ill need a bigger alt., however i will eventually have 2efans ewater and another 800-1000 watts in lights (when all on) so maybe an upgrade is called for
(something to concider and correct me if im wrong but a decient secondary dry cell bat is about $100 and will prevent voltage loss much better than a bigger alt. in addition a secondary bat on a high amp. relay will atc like having 2 batts on a boat, if you ever leave your lights on that second should start you right up)

now i think you can make any aftermarket alt. fit just make sure ist got more power...duh

so anyone who knows the stock alternator amperage for our years 01 and 06 please speak up and maybe a good place to find one, thanks

I have a digital 1.5 Farad Cap, its not a supeduper name brand but did help some when I put it in. I have the optima, I also have e-fans as well. My system is about a 1000 watt setup. I just want to be sure that putting in a higher AMP alt wont "blow" anything out, or screw up the function of anything, I am sure teh mounting points on the alts for the 5.4's will probably be ther same.

the alt. will be for 12volts
amperage = current so if there is a 80amp draw and your new alt. is rated at 150 it will only be putting out what the truck needs
i cant see anything going wrong just double check before you commit

remember new alt. about $80-100 (i think)
second batt $150 with relay shipped (small batt 5x7x8 give or take. then youll have another for emergency not to mention youll have no dimming, one conventional batt is equal to 100s of one fared caps)

(if theres any electrical geeks out there please help me out here)

Well, can't answer your question, but I can say after HOURS of reading a single write-up on caps, let alone countless other hours on many others- I can tell you with the utmost of confidence your cap is worthless.

In fact, it may hurt you.

They look cool though, lol. that's why I had some in my last installl..purely cosmetics.

Have you tried the "Big 3" cable upgrade under your hood yet? Try that first.

Alternators (aftermarket, HO) can run SEVERAL hundred bucks easily.

ya its probly a pretty beefy alt., and yes if there is something wrong with the cap it could put more resistance on your truck (i've never seen a "bad" cap tho)

A larger alternator will not affect your truck. They have voltage regulators and will only put out what is needed. The higher amperage just provides more power out. ie more watts to drive those speakers. it is like a 15 and 30 amp breaker on your house, same voltage just more current when needed.

Thanks guys, lenore...I was thinking along the same lines, I guess all I need to do now is see if the physically will bolt up the same.
