Unusual Cold Weather Behavior?

I just noticed something interesting with my 2002 F150XL. On startup, when it is cold (40* or colder), all the needles on the gauges, including the speedometer, will sweep to their maximum level, then drop back to zero before moving to their usual positions.

Is this normal? I've never noticed it in warmer weather, just in the wintertime, and it has me bugged.

Your battery is getting weak. Replace it before it strands you.

It means to replace your battery when the needles sweep, huh? Cool.
I know a brand new semi I drove does that everytime before you start it.

The voltage drop is to high with the higher starting effort of cooler temps.
The only other posibilities are corroded battery cable conections, a starter that takes to much current.
Test the battery capacity first.
35 to 40° is a bit to high to begin seeing these problems.
Colder temps may let you set.

Thanks for the tip! Guess it's off to Autozone for a battery, then!
