Air Compressor
Air Compressor
I need a wire i can tap into thats hot only when the ignition comes on and i need to know the color of a wire that will light up two light bulbs in rancho adjustable shock controller.....If you could give me the color of each of these wires and also the wire to light the bulbs doesnt need to carry a big load at all....Thanks Guys
There are at least 3 kinds of circuit that are "hot only when the ignition comes on", depending on what you mean by that. The ignition switch controls the accessory circuits, which are hot when the key is not in OFF or START. These include the radio & power windows. Then there are circuits that are hot when the key is in RUN, like the EEC power. Other circuits are only hot when the engine is actually RUNNING, like the fuel pump.
Ford typically uses LB/R wires for dimmable dash circuits, but vehicles with an LCM (like yours) are slightly different. Yours will probably be VERY similar to this:

Get a Haynes manual or a Ford service disk for the full wiring diagrams with wire colors. There are several vendors on this BBS, eBay, & elsewhere that sell the 2004 service DVD.

ok thanks ive heard the brown wire on the backside of the headlight switch i can use as the wire for the light bulbs in the shock controller to light the guages up at nite??? The other wire is goin to b used to power the air compressor and typically the compressor would b run when the key was in the run position or on.... So with that said What color wire could i use to control the compressor???
It did come with instructions...it only draws a 15 amp load and it says to wire it into a switched circuit not directly to battery???? Im guessing power drain i hooked my off road lights up with a relay and fuse directly to the battery....I see you live in memphis thats where i was born only lived there for about 4 years though.... thanks for your help
15A is far too much load to add to an existing circuit. Wire it up exactly like you did the lights. A relay is a switch.
I've lived here ~6 years. I grew up in Lake Charles, LA.

It came with a mini fuse adapter looks like you just slide it into the space where one of the prongs of the mini fuse goes and then the wire coming from the adapter has a 15 amp circular fuse in line to the controller for the compressor would this be an ok way to wire it up????? again thanks for all your help
