Power for interior leds
Power for interior leds
Hey guys
Id like to install some interior LED bars ive got the bars, but i dont know where to power them from does anyone here know how to get at the cig lighter power wire ? do i have to rip my whole dash apart? the bars came with cig lighter adapters for each set. since LEDs are polarity sensitive how will i know pos and neg once i cut the cig lighter adapters off since the wires are neither marked nor coloured?
Has anyone else tackled this?
Thanks for your help!

When you open the cig. plug on the LED wires, the wire going to the tip is +; the one going to the sides is -. Or you could plug it in & then puncture the wires with a test light to find the polarity.
If you power them by the cig. socket, they'll either be on whenever the key is, or ALL the time (depending on how your cig. socket is wired). But if you power them off the dash illumination circuit, they'll come on with the other dash lights. Ford typically uses LB/R for that circuit, but I'm not familiar with '97-up truck wiring. You might have an LCM, which is wired similarly to this:
