Some members have gone with the Sylvania Silverstars and have had positive feedback. I have the APC 4000K bulbs for my headlights. I like them. They are a brighter white than stock halogens. As far as the wires melting, it might have something to do with what type of gases are used in the bulbs themselves. I'm not sure which gas is used in the Sylvania's. There are Krypton gas bulbs, Xenon gas bulbs, etc. Don't quote me but I think the Krypton gas bulbs get really hot.
If you haven't done so yet, you can try searching the "net" and find out more about the gases, etc.
Hope this helps.

Not sure what model truck you are referring to, but if it is an older model, I don't know if I would go putting something in there that wasn't designed to fit in there or not.. Also, are you talking about head lamps? The new Sylvania bulbs are pretty good, that is what I used when I had one go out...

Go ahead and replace both when you do though...

I have the Silverstars in my Screw. Here's a pic of the Silverstar vs. the OEM bulb on low beams.

i went with the nokya arctic white h13 stock wattage bulbs. they are really bright. since they are stock wattage bulbs, they produce more light than standard halogen bulbs w/o worries of melting your harness. make sure you get the stage I bulbs and not the stage II. stage II bulbs are for upgraded harnesse's only. _Ryan
