park light problem
park light problem
have 1998 f150 i turn the headlights on and off and the park lights stay on all the time, i can remove a relay at the small box beside main dist. box and they will work fine, have checked the relay and it is ok. any ideas?
Is that the trailer towing parking light relay? If so, there's other issues there.... the power for the parking lights is fed solely from the main headlight switch. The parking lights trigger the trailer tow parking lamp relay. If the power is back-feeding through the relay, there's definately a problem there.

am not sure what relay it is, have been reading something about a gem pack, even though i unplug the relay everything goes back to working right, i have not checked the trailer harness section, is there another relay at the back of trk near the the plug in for trl?
Joe's post got me thinking.
He conecpt is a good start, but I do not think it is the Trailer Tow parking lamp relay. The circuit #14 ( parking lamps ) is connected to the traielr tow parking lamp relay, on the coil, this is isolated from the harness itself.
For the power to come from there, the coil would need power on both sides, and that leaves the coil open, so it should not be the case.
Additionally, it would mean there is power on the grounding system under the hood, and more things would not be working. At least that is what I see.
The other item here is the Trailer Tow backup lamp relay is grounded to the same splice point as the trailer tow parking lamp relay. Again, this should not allow the power through the relay, and you said they bench tested correctly.
I have to ask, do you have a trailer brake controller installed ?
Circuit #14 is used for the Electronic brake controller illumination directly.
That is the first place that I can see power being able to be placed onto Circuit #14, after the switch. There are others, including what Joe mentioned.
Which relay are you pulling out ?

no brake controller installed, the relay i pulled is in a small box next to the main power dist box, first relay facing main box,and closet to firewall there are four small relays and one large in the middle, for atotal of five can not find this small box in schematics that i have, ialso back checked power to switch on brn wire when relay is in and switch unhooked it is feeding power to brn wire, except when i remove relay. i removed the box where these relays are located to see if anywires might have shorted or corroded together but all are fine.

Did you ever get this resolved? I'm having the same problem with my 93 F150. I turn off the light swith and the parking lights stay on. I have to pull the relay to reset everything. Have changed the relay and the switch
