Alternator Question

Hello,

I need to replace my alternator and I have a question. When replacing it, I read that you need to loosen the tension on the tensioner arm. I have a 1/2" square drive for a breaker bar. My question is, do I crank it clockwise or counterclockwise to relieve the tension?

Thanks.

push the tensioner down, towards the ground, to loosen the tension. so looking at the truck from the front that is clockwise.

For whatever it's worth, I found it easier to have a helping hand up top while I accessed the tensioner with the breaker bar from underneath the vehicle. Less interference from components up top. I just replaced my alternator on my 97 last week. Good luck!
