How do you change the third brake light assembly on a 2001 f150?

Remove the 2 chrome phillips screws, pull the assy. away from the cab, work the rubber grommet out, pull the connector thru the hole, & disconnect it. Nuthin' to it.

Need a replacement???

Change the bulb or change the assembly ?

read page 187 in your owners manual, on how to remove for changing the bulb, stop at the point of removing the old bulb. USe your new assembly, and finsih the directions, from the point just after installation of the new bulb.

Thumbs up 3rd brake light

thanks for the replies. i scored a complete set of lightning lights & wanted to change the 3rd brake light, unfortunately, the connector is attached so i'd have to remove the headliner. i just cut & spliced. it works well. thanks again.

I did mine, headliner still in place. One thing, be careful not to bend it more than you need. I think I even used a small flat blade screwdriver to pry the harness clip. Patience is key, removal of the cab light was needed, but mine is a reg cab so supercabs may have more room if theirs is removed too, Very cumbersome job, I'm 6ft 6" and am 260 plus pounds with big arms and I managed so anyone smaller it should be ok. In the end, it was a nice add on, lots of compliments and satisfaction from a DIY project. It in my opinion is not needed to splice, just plug. It will be faster to unplug existing, plug in new anyways even after some figuring out. Good luck!
