Backup Light Switch for manual tranny.

I own an 85 F-150 with a 4 speed manual tranny. Neither of my backup lights work. I replaced one of the bulbs and still got nothing. The rest of the out side lights work. I was told that there is a switch on the (passenger side) of the tranny at the top under the boot that controls the backup lights but when I looked under the boot, all I saw were two wires going into this bolt looking thing on the (driver side), is that the switch and if so is it easy to replace?

Yes, that's A switch, but not necessarily THE switch. Before you go replacing stuff, diagnose it first. See if there's power going TO that switch when the key is in RUN, and if power switches coming OUT of it when you shift into & out of R. A Haynes manual would be a wise investment - it has the wiring diagrams & MUCH more.

I don't know much about electronics. How would I tell if power is coming out of it?

With a multimeter or 12V test light, and the Haynes diagrams. If you can't, pay a pro this time & start learning how for next time.

Fixed it!!! I pulled that plug to see if there was power, and just on a hunch I pulled on the wires and sure enough they were busted. I traced it about two feet down the frame rail and sure enough there were the other ends . Reconected them, and SAZAMM!! They work!!!

Good job! Now, aren't you glad you didn't waste the money on a new switch?
