Power door locks not locking - 01 Supercrew

Got an issue with the power locks on my 2001 Supercrew Lariat.
I have power locks, keyless entry and the keypad on the door.
107,000 miles.

My problem. The power locks usually will not "lock" using the keyfob, lock switch on the door or the keypad. None of the doors will lock. When I hit the button on the fob, switch on the door or keypad (7/8, 9/0) I hear a "click" on the floor above the brake pedal (RAP module?) but the locks do not "lock". Also, if I hit the keyfob "lock" button twice, I get the honk and light flash. Also, when I put the truck in gear and take my foot off the brake, the doors do not lock, but I hear the "click" on the floor (RAP module?)

Most of the time I can get them to unlock using the keyfob or keypad, and I think the switch on the door....Unlocking does not seem to be an issue.

Thinking maybe a relay????

Aren't there some relays that the RAP module sends signals to trip the actuators? Located under the oval trim piece on the dash? Which relays are they?

Am I heading in the right direction? Help.....

It would be strange that all 4 actuators went at the same time, but that is what it sounds like.

2001 EVTM 110-2 Power Door Locks with RAP

The PDL relays, if memory serves me correctly, are under the oval on the dash, same place as the DRL relay.

If you remove the relays and short the replay pin sockets 3&4, the dorrs will lock on the All Lock relay ( or if you pulled one of the unlock, they would just cycle down again ).

This would be the half way point of checking power from the Fuse # 8 to the door lock actuators, removing the switches, and the RAP needing to groudn the relay coil for the function.

Let us know what happens when you do this.

Thx for the diagram SSCULLY. Makes a little more sense.

I don't think it's the actuators since it's an all or nothing deal. Didn't get any sticking or weird "action" from the locks before. They just don't work well to lock...Unlocking works fine...

I've checked the fuses (yes, the right ones for the Supercrew..) all is well. The fact that it is only the lock function that seems to give me trouble leads me to believe it's the "all lock" relay in the schematic. Now all I need to do is find it. Pulled the oval trim piece off...are the PDL relays UNDER the metal bracket? There is a small relay box on "top" of the barcket, but I read somewhere this is NOT the ones for the power door locks.

Stupid question
Assume that PDL stands for power door lock..What does DRL stand for? Daytime Running Lights??? I don't have daytime running lights on the 01 SCrew.

OK, now I'm confused....

Pulled the oval cover on the dash. Mounted to a metal bracket was a 4 slot relay holder with 3 relays installed. I checked the wire colors against the diagram above. Did not match. Sooooo....

Removed the metal bracket and found another relay box under it. A 4 slot box with 2 relays installed. Can't see the wire colors since it is buried against the firewall - but only has 2 relays...

Back to the first relay box. Just for grins, I pulled all the relays out and tried to actuate the locks. It made no difference if the relays were in or out, the locks acted the same...

Pulled the two relays in the second box (against the firewall) and tried to actuate the locks (door switch and keyfob). Again, no difference in the operation with the relays in or out.

Also tried to jump from 3&4 as you suggested with no results - did not do anything with the door locks....

Mixed up the relays (they were all the same part #) and reinstalled. No difference the lock operation...

I don't think I have the right relays for the lock actuators....

?????????????????????????

The actuators could give a problem in one direction, but I will agree, it cannot be all 4 at one time.

PDL = Power Door Lock
DRL = Day Time Running lamps.

Sorry I am OOT right now and don't have access to my EVTM. If Joe or Steve or B/G don't get back to you prior to me getting home, I will look up the location on the parts.
I thought they were under the Oval. I hope I did not send you on a wild goose chase in the wrong direction.

The testing part is all about figuring out what parts work and don't work, so it is a bit more then the fuse being tested there.

Not a problem at all. I was excited to go out and poke around and do some testing.....And I had seen other posts describing the relays under the "oval".

Appreciate all the help. SW

I am having the same problem exactly. Ever figure this one out?

I smelled a electric burn this morning and then the doors went crazy.

Ended up taking it to my local Ford mechanic (not the dealer).

We played with it for a while - narrowed it down to the RAP module...Replaced it (and reprogrammed the keys/key fobs). Now it works like it did when I drove it off the lot.

Never had the burning wire smell you described pol5002...

Replaced the RAP module, the locks worked fine for about five cycles. Now trouble again. I added another post!!
