no cruise control

my 1997 f150 4x4 has not had cruise control since I was stuck in the swamp. I pulled of the connector at the tranny and performed the voltage check, manual says it should have 5 volts but i only get .7. Checked everything under the hood all seems to be connected and nothing looks out of place. Should I pull the sensor out of the tranny and perform the check where you spin it?
Just looking for advice.

What sensor are you talking about? the tranny has at least three or four.

Did you verify the SCDS switch was passing power? Does your horn work properly?

the switch i checked for voltage was the VSS vehicle speed sensor, the horn works properly. What is the SCDS switch?

The VSS only provides a signal when the truck is moving. If the VSS is defective you will have shifting problems if an automatic and would have a DTC stored.

The SCDS is the switch on the master cylinder that supplies power to the cruise electronics. The switch is normally closed and should only open when the brakes are applied.

projectSHO89, I only checked the harness that goes to the sensor, the manual says to have the key on but not start the engine and check for voltage to the sensor, should have 5 volts ( I only got .7) next step will to take the sensor out of the tranny and check for voltage while slowley spinning the gear.
Plus I don't see anything in my manual for the SCDS switch

Are you using the Ford factory manual or some aftermarket POS?

The Ford manual doesn't even check the VSS for an inop CC system.

Ugh!

If you supply your email address, I'll send you the Ford docs as a PDF tomorrow.

Just post it as- myemailaddress at mydomain- etc to keep the spambots from harvesting it.
