Wipers not working....continued
I just discovered that my wipers are not working AGAIN. I took them to the dealer who discovered a loose wire connection in the GEM module. I've read all the threads regarding 'wiper gremlins.' I'm trying to avoid another trip to the dealer to get this thing resolved.
1.) I haven't tried replacing the MFS, but am considering it.
2.) I've cleaned the connections (as suggested) to no avail.
3.) I tried to locate the GEM module to see if a loose connection occurred (I couldn't figure out where it's located)
4.) Should I look into the wiper control module (where is this located?)
I've got an old 98 F150 that I bought used. I only use it to haul junk to the local dump, so I don't want to invest a ton of money repairing these annoying defects. Sorry for the long-winded thread, but it's just frustrating! Can anyone suggest the best option for me?
thanks!

Aye, carumba!! Ignore what I originally said about the GEM location... got the Explorer confused with the F-150... On the F-150, the GEM is up behind the fuse box on teh driver's side of the dash.
There is no wiper control module. The wiper stalk on the multifunction switch communicates with the GEM. The GEM untimately controls the function and timing of the wipers.
Does that help?

Module—Generic Electronic (GEM)/Central Timer (CTM)
Removal
CAUTION: Prior to removal of the module, it is necessary to upload module configuration information to the scan tool. This information needs to be downloaded into the new module once installed. For additional information, refer to Section 418-01.
CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.
Disconnect the battery ground cable.
Remove the steering column cover. For additional information, refer to Section 501-12.
Remove the (A) bulkhead electrical connectors from the (B) instrument panel fuse junction panel.
Remove the (A) instrument panel fuse junction panel bolts and remove the (B) interior fuse junction panel nuts.
Disconnect the (A) generic electronic module (GEM)/central timer module (CTM) electrical connectors from the (B) GEM/CTM.
Remove the screws and the GEM/CTM.
Installation
CAUTION: Once the new module is installed, it is necessary to download the module configuration information from the scan tool into the new module. For additional information, refer to Section 418-01.
NOTE: When the battery (10655) is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Check for proper operation.
