How do I replace the Multifunction Switch?

'98 F-150. Do I need to pull the whole dash out to get the steering column cover off? Really, I just want to check the connections on the MFS and make sure they are all sturdy, and clean it up. Any help appreciated on how to get the suspect piece out. Thanks guys.

There are two screws under the column that hold the two halves together. After pulling the bottom cover off you need to put the key in and turn the ignition switch part way on. There is a small hole in the bottom that you stick a piece of sturdy wire or small screwdriver into and it will release the ignition switch assembly. Now you can pull off the top half of the cover with a little wiggling.

I was having trouble with that switch. I took it all apart and cleaned all the terminals inside. I also cleaned up some of the extra grease and now it works great. Good luck.

What about the lever for the tilt steering wheel? I think I need to remove that to get the cover off? Thanks.

So, last night I attempted this repair for the 2nd time. I got all the dash apart, then dropped my torx head into the "lower dash". While trying to remove the lower dash (where the fuse panel is), not only did I manage to break a clip, but I was unable to completely remove the lower dash. Finally, after 30 minutes, I retrieved the torx head with some handy gumby moves. I also managed to ship some more paint off the dash...great. Then, after another 30 minutes of trying to get the stupid harnass off the switch, I gave up. Was afraid I was going to break it. This sucks. I am so peaved.
