ati-lock break sensor
ati-lock break sensor
My girlfriend was comming home from school the othe day and she was telling me that the blinkers wernt comming on at all... no light or nothing. No break lights either. So she pulled up in my truck and I tried to see if the blinker and the break lights would come on and they wouldn't. So I opened the hood and I could smell something burning. I checked probably ever wire in the truck, couldnt find nothing. I WAS GETTING VERY ANGRY untill I looked down were my break fluid goes and the sensor on the front of it was melted to the crisp!!!! I was like what the ****. When I graved it the sensor and the plugg just fell apart. I knew there was a couple of fuses blown so I changed them out and my lights started working agiain. But I am confused... Why would it just burn up like that.... I couldnt find any shorts in my wires, and when I hooked the new sensor up and the new plugg that I had to buy Its worked fine ever since. This was a couple of days ago... Do these sensors go bad after a while or what??? does anybody know
You should consider yourself lucky. With the MY on your truck, you should be in the recall for the cruise control switch. This sounds like what you are talking about in front of the brake fluid reservoir.
There are several posts here about it, as well as it has been all over the news. Guess Ford does not have your current address, to send you a notification.
Take it to the dealer to have the secondary pressure switch replaced with the new style.
Don't know if they are going to cover the other damage, as it should have been taken in some time ago ( if they don't know you own it, they can't tell you about the recall ).
The reason I say consider yourself lucky, is there have been reports of the whole truck going up in flames from this ( along with some houses / garages ) , the lucky part is the fire might not have been able to catch, with the wind from the truck moving putting it out for the most part.
Sorry to hear you had this happen with the secondary brake sensor, glad everyone was alright from the incident. Good luck with the dealer on this one.

FWIW, the switch in question has nothing to do with the ABS system. It is the cruise disconnect switch which has been the subject of numerous threads over the last two years and several Ford recalls. Yours should have been recalled almost two years ago.
Go see your dealer.

Thanks for adding that, I was not even along the lines of correcting the subject.
I was more shocked about a F150 owner that had not heard of this already, considering how long it has been going on. Guess there are bound to be a few out there that have not seen it, or have a registered UID on myford, with the VIN filled in. I need to remember that this might only be 30% that do this ?? or fill in the card in the back of the manual with the mailing update, to send off to ford.
