Help this gal with 99 XLT F150...please!
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum..mostly because my truck has been running perfect since I bought it back in 99...original owner. I've survived this far without any damage to it...until the other day.
Now, I've got to replace the pax side view mirror. Of course, I could have the *stealer* do it for me but I think this is something I can do, even though I'm not mechanically inclined.
I've done some searches here on "Front Door Panel Removal" to get detailed instructions on how to do it...but it seems to be bits and pieces or for newer model trucks. I tried to search the muthco.com sight but didn't feel like opening every PDF file to find my truck. :o I bought a replacement mirror from ebay for a great price, but it didn't come with the colored body part...just the black section that attaches to the truck and the border. Does that make sense? So I've got to take the colored part of the mirror off my broken mirror since that was not damaged...and put it on my replacement mirror. Are there links for how to do that?
If someone would be so kind to post some past forum links...or muthco.com link...or crutchfield (?) links, I would be sooooo grateful!!! More pictures the better.
Thank you everyone!!!
Vivian

I have a 99' XLT and a Factory Service CD. I could e-mail about 10 pages to you. If you want to send me ur e-mail address as a private message click on "User CP" in upper left corner.
These factory CD's are about $10 to $15 on E-bay. Search on Ford Service.
The door panel comes off by removing couple hidden screws. pulling off door switch asm. Removing a screw in door handle. Taking a putty knife and prying loose panel. Lifting up and off. I haven't done it, I'm just reading it.

Select Cars and Trucks in the upper left hand corner ( just under where it says Muth ).
Next drop down box 1. -> change to Ford
Next drop down box 2. -> change to F-150/F-250 light duty 1998-2003
Click Go
Retro fit kit at the top of the list, with the URL for the install Manual :
Or if that is too much

Thank you....err, how do I do that?
Thanks, Raisin! But I can't send you a private message since I haven't been registered for more than 90 days. I clicked on the User Control Panel and I have the option to receive email enabled. So, if you send me your email address, I can reply to that with mine. I'm trustworthy. :-D
So, basically, I need to see how to remove the door panel, and how to remove the painted body part of the mirror. That step worries me because I don't want to scratch the paint. And I don't see how that comes off without it being pried off. Ouch.
Thanks again!

Oh...one more thing
Thanks for the tip on the manual! Actually, if I was planning to keep my truck, I would shell out the $ for the manual off eBay....didn't think I ever needed it.
Except I'm trying to sell my truck now. :o Which is why I need to get my mirror fixed ASAP.
Cheers,
Vivian

Look at Sscully hi-lighted web site. I will send you pages tomorrow if you send ur e-mail address to www.120@yahoo.com That's my junk email.
Between the 2 you may get the idea. If ur like me no book shows it simple enough. Now I've got to learn how to use that website Sscully referred to, I'm just learning. I can't send you a private message either.

Thanks for Muthco link
Oh...duh. I found an old muthco link here on the forum that led me to a directory of PDF files.
I should've just gone to the main website.
Thank you!!!
Vivian
P.S. Raisin, I still would like a copy of those pages from the manual. I will take everything I can get so I don't mess up!! Cheers!

Thank You!!!
Thanks Raisin and SScully for your help!! The install was a piece of cake.
The 99XLT only has two screws to remove the door panel so that made it even easier. The manual and muthco pics really helped...thanks, guys!
This is a great forum that people are so helpful. I really appreciate it.
Now I feel like I can go and fix anything.
Cheers,
Vivian

The painted section of the mirror comes off from the inside. There are four tabs that need to be pushed on. If you are replacing the mirror, just simply bust the glass or pull it off and you will see the four tabs inside the mirror. I usually do 2 tabs at a time using a long flat head screwdriver.
To remove the mirror you need to remove door panel to acces 3 bolts which hold the mirror.
The door panel is easy to remove, just take your time and don't break anything. I had a 02 and a 03 which I had to remove panels for stereo install and replacing driver side mirror. Hope this helps...
