Dash Lights - sanity check
Dash Lights - sanity check
Hi,
Can one of you guys do me a favor and run out to your truck and turn on the headlights to see if your speedometer is illuminated at the very top - around 50-70 mph?
I know this sounds nuts, but I have a 97 f150, and I took apart the whole dash today to replace some burnt out light bulbs (thanks, by the way, to the awesome threads on this topic on this site!), and then I put the whole thing back together, turned on the lights, and there is still a dark spot at the top of the speedometer. The rest of the dash is fine. The lights have been burnt out for so long that I honestly don't remember whether or not there was ever a light behind the top of the speedometer.
I replaced 5 lights back there - and I think I got them all. There were, I think, 5 black twist holders that were labeled as "illumination" - I used brand new GE 194's.
So, if this is the way it is, I guess I can live with it - but just thought I'd ask.
Thanks!

I think everything looked fine - it just seems as though if the top of the speedometer is supposed to be lit up, then it might be another type of bulb that lights up that area. Either that, or there was one more black plug that holds a 194 up there that I missed.
So, before I took it all apart again, I figured I'd see if any of you could tell me what your truck's speedo looks like when lit up.

Speedometer light
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone with a '97 year dash had a minute to check on whether your speedometer was illuminated in the 50-70 mph zone? I checked a friend's who own's a '98, but the dash is different - sorry to ask such a stupid question, but I don't know anyone else with a '97 to check.
Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

Sanity Check - Check!
Hi,
Just for everyone wondering what the answer to this is - the speedometer DOES light up at the top between 50-70 mph. Mine was not lit, and then all of sudden while driving home, it lit up! I turned the lights off and then on again to see if it would stay lit, and it did not. So, I've clearly got a problem - not sure if it's a bulb or wire or what - I'll get in there and check it out. But, at least now I know there's something i've got to fix.
