Trailer hitch wire connection

I have a 2005 KR F-150 and I went to hook up the trailer the other day, and the clip where you insert the wires from the trailer did not match up to the one that came with my tow package. Does this just have to do with the trailer or is there some adapter I can buy or what? Thanks again!

When you say "the clip" are you talking about the actual trailer plug ?

The factory tow package should be a flat 4, and a round 7 pin.

What plug does the trailer have ?

There are a lot of options for trailer plugs, flat 4, flat 5, round 6 and round 7 come to mind, I am sure I am missing a few options.

There are a number of wiring / plug configurations that do not match the two provided with the factory tow package. The one that's getting to be very common is the Flat 5 - for trailers with disc brakes. Fortunately, most auto parts stores - and even Wal-Mart - have converters to get you from your 7 pin round connector to just about anything else.
