help no trailer lights
help no trailer lights
hello I have a 97 f150 with a factory trailer harness. I do not have the owners manual so I do not know the location of the fuses and realys for the tow package. I tested all the fuses under the dash and under the hood. i found a bad one and replaced it. now I have tail lights to the trailer but nothing els. no trailer charge, turn or brake lights. I found on here the picture of i think a 00 or 01 fuse panel with all the locations but it doesn't look what I have. any help would be greatly appreciated thank you
Hah, had a similar issu helping a friend of mine with his '98. Look under the hood on the driver's side beside the relay center. there is a small rectangular 5 fuse block there that serves the factory towing package. Check these fuses and I bet you'll find the one youu need.--DIY
last i heard on my truck, all i had to do was pop a fuse in and they would work, but then i towed a car dolly a few months ago, with no problems. IDK possible its missing a fuse you need.
Lol, hey there's my quote. Glad somebody got the joke.
BTW, the fuses should have a legend on the inside of the cover (or inside the lid of the main relay box) that shows what each corresponding fuse or relay does.--DIY.

On the 97, only two of the slots in that 5-slot box are occupied. One is the PCM KAM feed, the other is used in the trailer setup. Forget which function and there surely isn't any legend in there (or any other fusebox in my 97). One 20A fuse in the underhood box runs the trailer running lights.
Owner's manual: Download from www.fleet.ford.com under Maintenance.
The 97 has an additional relay box mounted next to the main under-hood fuse/relay box that is totally undocumented in the owner's manual. Its relays are shown in the electrical schematics, but ther is no documentation as to component location. IIRC, mine has seven relays in it. It's dark and I'm not walking outside tonioght to look again...
One of these days, if I have nothing better to do, I might dig into it and document it unless someone has some factory docs.

In the 1997 PDF OM, it is documented on page 142, the correct name ( for the OM ) is the Engine minifuse panel.
Here is some info I found out the hard way on a 1998 ( aka only read the 1998 OM, did not check backwards ) :
Picture of sarebaugh's 1998 Engine Bay, with the Engine minifuse panel. The yellow 20 AMP Takes power from Fuse #16 BJB and distributes it to one side of the N.O. contacts on the L&R Turn Relays
Picture of it, with the cover off:

Had me chasing my tail in circles looking at the 1998 EVTM and trying to explain that there is another fuse block under the hood ( that the 1998 OM did not show ).
sarebaugh finally found it, and later I looked in a 1997 OM, and found it.
Don't know if this was a mid 1998 MY change, or was to be changed, and never was on the 1998's. Both the print and pdf version of the '98 OM don't show it. If you want the documentation for it, download the pdf for a 1997, and print page 142.

Hey DIY, why dont you try this for your sig, just ad your link to your gallery underneath it! Should take up alot less vertical space on the forrums

Or you could list your gallery number in your profile, and your gallery link will always show up as the little camera next to your post counter!

Thanks for the help. DIY I went to the link but when I printed it there was just black over the info I needed, like the list and description of the fuses and relays. does any one know how to pritn this so it does me some good?
is there somewhere that says printer friendly version? If you still cant get it to work, tell me exactly how to find that page you need, i can screen capture it, email it to you and you should be able to print it out that way.

I tried the last version of the '97 OM that I downloaded, and it printed the page 142 fine.
The fuse for the Trailer tow stop/turn lamps is the fuse in the #2 position.
it is the yellow fuse in the picture above.

The EXTRA relay box that's between them.
