AUX/FOG/Driving Lights
AUX/FOG/Driving Lights
Years ago (ok 35 years) I mounted some aux lights on my 69 Mustang. I used some (at that time) fairly standard 4 1/2 inch (I think) housings and GE4509 bulbs. If that bulb number is not familiar to some it is used as a Landing Light in older small 12V (Cessna,Piper) aircraft. We used the same bulb in a car spotlight (like Police cars had/have) mounted through the roof of our pickups to spotlight Coyotes . Incredible... Once we spotted Wiley E we would ....ah introduce him to Mr 22-250. Yes ,it's legal out West here. Anyway the memories came flooding back the other day and I thought they would make dandy driving lights on my 2000 F150. A Google search says the bulbs are still available and cheap with an even better bulb (Q4509) for a few dollars more. I know how to wire ,with relay and such, but I can't find simple Chrome housings
.
A Google search has netting nothing.
Anyone have a favorite web site for lighting supplies.
I even thought of a tractor backup light housing but I don't think it is deep enough.
These lites compared to "bought" lights is so cheap and effective that I can't
believe someone besides me aren't using them. A search of this site using "GE4509", "4509" produces nothing.
What am I missing here.
Thanks for any help.
