Add Overhead Console to 99 XLT?

Hey all, searched up and down but no clear answer. Is it possible to add an overhead console to my '99 XLT SCAB? I know I can find one from an expy or navi from other threads, but what about mounting? Are the mounts there already but hidden in my '99? And wiring, is there even anything there to wire a compass, etc? Only thing on the roof right now are the dome and map lights, but they are towards the back. ANy info would be great! Thanks!

You will need the head liner from a truck with the overhead console.

It can be done without the new headliner but there was alot of modifying. This console is 31 1/2'' long by 8'' wide and it came out of a 99 Expedition and went into a 98 F-150.It's not an easy task at all.First of all I had to drop the headliner and take a 2 inch wide piece of sheet metal and screw it to the front and mid supports to have somewhere to screw mount to.Electrical wise all that was up there was power and negative for the dome light(mine is a non digital). With some splicing the Expy light works like a charm.(as a note one black wire will ground to the cab so when you open a door the light comes on)Now comes the trimming. If you mount the console all the way to the windshield then you will have to leave the original dome light there because the rear of the console doesnt reach,it also doesnt line up worth a squat either and there will be alot of spaces between the console and the headliner..I mounted mine in between the visors right after the clip that holds them in the center and the rear light in the console matches up to the original and takes it place.(you have to remove the clip-in bracket in the rear of the console)It also lined up alot better. To make it line up better and look like its supposed to be there I had to take 400 grit sandpaper and sand the lip in the front that was supposed to meet the windshield. Now to the AC controls. This was by far the hardest task! The rear ac controls on the console are shorter in lenght than the in dash controls in our F-150's and they also mount differently.I had to put the controls on a grinder and grind the brackets off mine and grind the corners and sides very carefully a little at a time to make them fit.(the walls were paper thin when i was done!)no special mounting.I got some 5 minute plastice epoxy and and applied the whole bottle all around the thing in there and let it set up for 24 hours. It says 5 minutes but everything has a cure time, being to hasty could cause headaches later.I extended the wires up the side of the windshield pillar (soldering and heatshrinking is recommended!!)along with the extended vacuum lines.Thats the skinny on it man.Mounting was easy once the headliner was back on with the metal bracket behind it.Good Luck Bro!

this is the closest topic i could find to teh questoin i have, and i'm basically going off of cdecker's question. i understand lot of ppl want to go with the expy overhead console, but what about just adding the reg overhead from a reg or scab truck? my truck doesnt have any console, and i just would like to add at least the reg overhead console. any feedback would be very helpful.
