Possessed By A Battery Demon
Here's the deal. I own a 1993 F-150 XLT Crewcab 4x4 with a 5.0
Had it a few years with no problems. Then last fall I'm driving down the road and watched as my charging gauge dropped from full bore position, which i always figured meant it was broke, to just above the "A" in "Normal"
And about 2 weeks later I woke up to a dead battery. After jumping the battery, the truck would start, but if i didnt start it everyday, say go 3 days between starts, battery would be dead. I replaced the battery, hoping that would be the cheap fix. But about a week or so later, battery was dead.
Took it to Canadian Tire, they tested charging system, said it was fine and draw on battery was only 2 amps. But sure it had to be the alternator, I had them put in a new one and a new battery.
About 2 weeks later, woke up to a dead battery. Charged the battery, but starter wouldn't turn. Took it to another garage, and was told that starter was bad and when replaced should cure battery issue as well. Was also told battery I had did have a bad cell and would need replacing. So replaced starter and battery.
About 2 weeks later i now have a dead battery again !! Can charge it but if i let it go 3 days or more between starts, the battery will be totally dead.
So 2 alternators and 3 batteries and a new starter, and I'm still at square one, with alot less money. Has anyone got any ideas of either why the battery is being drained, or what i think, is being killed ? Ruling out overcharging by the alternator itself cause I've had 2 so far and still have the same problem. Completely Baffled !! HELP !!
