Trip Computer

Hey all, I hope this is in the correct forum. I'm looking at moving back to the ranks of Ford. I currently have an 04 Silverado that I'm looking to trade for a 2006 F150. I'm looking at an FX4 that is pretty loaded but it doesn't have the Trip/Travel computer.

I has the spot for the three buttons to go but just blanks. Is it possible to retrofit that onto the truck? I'm sure it's easy enough to add the physical buttons, but the big question would be whether or not the software and wiring would be good behind that.

Is it possible or am I smoking crack???

To get the full computer setup, I believe you would have to replace the FX4 cluster wih a Lariat cluster. This has been done MANY times on the 2204+ forum and clusters are fairly easy to find (ebay, dealers, etc). You will need a dealer to transfer over your build data to the new computer, but from there you should be almost set.

I would suggest reading the 04+ posts on swapping for the lariat cluster, as there are some quirks (such as the PATS not working (and truck wont start) when you do the swap unless you program first, etc).
