Reverse wire location in 2004
Reverse wire location in 2004
I am looking for the reverse wire to hook to a head unit. My manual says it is the black with pink stripe in the door sill. It is not. I have a black with pink strip in both door sills and they are not hot with reverse lights lit.
I have a black with pink wire in the stern, where I have my camera and reverse sensor hooked and that does put out current when in reverse.
I have read about using a dark green with yellow wire also. There is no dark green with yellow wire in there.
Anyone hook up their own and know which wire to use?

I dont know the direct answer, but you should be able to start at the reverse light housing and work your way back. Find the color that is hot at the bulb, then work your way back to under the cab. Dont forget to put the key in the on position.

The truck must be in reverse, key on to light up the reverse lights. Unlike most cars the key must be clear to on.
The wire is easy to locate at the back, I have a camera and a remote sensor hooked up at the tail. The thing is, the wire goes into a huge harness and disapears. In the channels are wires the same size, color, but they are not for the reverse lights.

Here is a thread from 2 months ago, that is searchable with the keywords backup camera limit to the electrical forum :

Thanks, yes I saw that when I searched 400+ posts with 'reverse wire' in them.
I got it fixed by tying into the wire above the fuse box.
Oddly, the black with pink wire in my channels is not the black with pink wire at the rear of the truck.
No green with yellow wires down my channels either.
All the threads and even some pictures that were sent me were of a different harness.
STX seems to be a bit different from the others, no surprise; all my other wiring is different. Only about half matches the 2004 F150 CD.
Still, the place I finally tied in is better than most, easy to get at.
Thanks for the replies.
