Need Help with PATS
I have a 2003 F-150 Supercrew XLT Lariat. Everything was working just fine until I went to the store the other night to get a coke, came out to start my truck to leave and go home and it would not start, would not crank. All it would do was make some kind of noise that seemed to be coming from a relay fuse in the fuse box. When I turn the emergency flashers on, it sounds like an air noise trying to be forced something that has been capped or something.
Sometimes the interior dome lights work, most of the time they don't. If the dome lights are on and the key is in the ignition and the door chime is working and I turn my headlights on, it stops everything again and goes back to the noise from the relay fuse in the box.
I have two keys for this truck, they both do the same thing.
I did hook the battery up to jumper cables and all I got was clicking.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chuck

Have you gotten a lot of rain as of late ?
The reason I ask is some have a problem with the GEM, which can cause all sorts of problems in combo, which sounds like what you are seeing.
Lets start with the crank no start could be a different problem, and the interior lamps are a chance combo problem :
If you have the factory tow package installed, the TT relay ( Relay 303 ) swap this for the fuel pump relay ( relay 301 ? ) and see if the same problem exists. When you turn the key on, listen for the fuel pump to run. You can also jumpper pin 30 to pin 87 in the relay socket, and the fuel pump should run on its own.
Check the starter / battery cable(s) for corrosion as posted by todd1, to see if you are having a high resistance circuit to the starting system ( jumper cables and clicking say something is not right there ). Also slide under the truck, and check if the starter cables are tight, as well as the at the starter selonoid on the firewall, which is just to the pass side of the intake center line area on the firewall.
If the fuel pump runs ( either before or after the relay swap ) and the battery / charging system are good ( no corrosion and tight cables ) the next thing I would think is a soaked GEM, that is causing grief, but lets hope not.
To check, look up behind the CJB ( central junction box i.e. pass compatment fuse panel ) to see if it is wet, or has signs of green fuzz on it.
Those are the things that I can think of to check straight away.

My money is on a bad connection... corroded terminals on the battery, corroded ground connector on the frame, or a broken (or, more likely, highly corroded) battery cable.
Classic symptoms.
If it was a PATS issue, it would be a crank/no-start issue, not a no-crank issue.
