Clearance lights / door plug

I have an '06 F150 and just intalled some towing mirrors and they have clearance lights . Instructions say to route the wire through the rubber boot and grommets from the door into the cab. But the newer SCREWs have a damn plug there so that is not so easy to go through - anybody deal with that before and figure out a good way to do it?

Also - for the clearance lights if I wanted to tap into the parking lights or head lights at the light control on the dash, which wire would it be? The instructions say to use the brown wire which is on the lower and outboard side of the connector - that to me looked like a brown wire (but with a stripe) so I used that and I think it may not be the correct one.

Any help is appreciated.
