Wiring an AMM meter in a '79??

First off, thanks to everyone for helping me get my charging system fixed. Everything seems to be working and charging fine now.

Now another question...

To help avoid future issues with my charging system, since the stock dash only has an 'alt' light and no gauge, I want to install an after market amm gauge.

Here's where I get lost. I know how to hook up the gauge light to the dash lights, but that's about it.

Would anyone that has hooked one up please help me out and tell me where I need to make connections??

Is this what I want or do I want a volt meter??

Thanks in advance,
Rob

A voltmeter would be a much wiser choice, IMO.

Yeah, that was the conclusion I came too also. Went and got one the other day. Needs to stop raining so that I can put it in without getting soaked.

Thanks again!

Some of the amp gauges I seen required the alt output wire be cut and the gauge wired in in series. This woud require heavy gauge wire to be run in and out of the cab. Not sure if I would want that. I vote the same, go for a voltmeter.
