'ALT' light on '79 F100

Ok, recently picked up another truck and started going through it to get it on the road. Here are the specs on the truck before I get into my problem.

1979 F100 2wd
Standard cab
Step side
351W
C6

The other night, it stalled in the driveway and the 'ALT' light on the dash came on. Well, thinking the alternator was dead, I changed out the alternator and the battery. Truck wouldn't start. Changed the starter solenoid and the truck started. 'ALT' light was still on. Changed the voltage regulator and the light is still on. Replaced the positive battery cable to the starter solenoid and the ground to the engine block (they were in pretty sad shape) and the 'ALT' light on the dash is still on. Anyone have any other ideas. Not sure why the light is still on and looking for advice on next course of action.

Rob

first check to see if it is charging. the battery should be about 12V with the engine off and 13-14V with it running.

You should have 14.5 volts with the engine running, on the old alternators, you should have some magnetic pull at the rear bearing, also. There is a fusible link that feeds the alternator, sounds like about the only thing you haven't changed.

The battery isn't charging right now. With the truck on or off, I get 12V at the battery. I will check the fusible links coming off the starter solenoid. There is one of them that runs to the back of the alternator. Thanks for the tip!

Fusible link was burned out in about the middle. Replaced that with a new section and everything is good to go. Thanks again!

Glad it worked out for you, I won't take any credit though, it was about the only thing left!
