Headlight bulb choice review
Ok, for you diehard silverstar fans I gave a set a try. I was, to say the least, unimpressed for the price. $36.99 at autozone for a pair of 9007's. Sure, they are a brighter white (annoyingly bright I might add when driving towards them) but thats it. They didn't really shine any further or expand my periphrial (spelling, I know) vision at all. For almost $40 with tax, I don't think they are worth the money. You can buy White hot metal plasma bulbs from summingracing for $19.98 a pair plus $7 shipping for a total under $27 that have a one year warranty. Or you can get the Blue Halogen for the same as the white hot metal plasma.
I also tried the off the shelf regular wattage blue halogens from autozone, yet another disappointment. They aren't blue when on. They look blue in the housing when off, but are just bright white when in use.
Bottom line, the $9.97 each bulbs from summit seem to perform better and cost less than any of the alternatives.

All a trade-off
It's a commonly known fact, blue tint filters out the yellow in the light to make it whiter but won't really shine blue and won't put extra light on the road. The bulb actually has to burn hotter in order to put the same amount of light through a blue tint and therefore will go out faster.
I too never understood the obsession with light color. Some people seem to care more about the whiteness or the amount of blue tint to the light than whether there is actually more useable light on the road. Personally, my priority is to see more light on the road than there was with stock. I never cared if it's the stock, ugly yellow like some other people seem to dislike so much. And no, it isn't a big deal to me if all my lights aren't the same color. The fogs and headlights are very white, Driving lights are yellow. I got GE Nighthawks for the headlight bulbs because I try to replace the stock ones yearly anyway and I was curious to try something advertised as better than stock with long life. They made things a bit better. For the most part with aftermarket bulbs the choice seems to be something superbright that burns out every 5 month or something overpriced but no better than stock. To make a real difference and put extra useable light down on the road where I need it I upgraded the fogs and added driving lights.
