Keyless entry system
Keyless entry system
Just wondering if anyone has ever installed an aftermarket keyless entry system. I have power locks in my 1998 f150 SC but am looking to add the system with the key fobs- not the keyless system that goes on the door. I see one on Ebay for $50.00 and was wondering if it was worth the money to do it myself or have dealer do it. This comes with the wires, 2 fobs and the actual transmitter. I don't want to splice into my wire harness if I can help it. I was wondering if they have a "plug and play" system that only required me to plug into existing harness. Any thoughts, ideas, or insight would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!
The Remote Start will not be 100% plug and play, but the best route for the best price that I have seen is the pre wired Code Alarm from Traivs.
Drop him an email and ask him to confirm the MY application, but any of the low end Code Alarm ones will do what you want, and you might as well add in the Remote Start one ( CA530 ) if you are going to the trouble of the install, rather then just something like the CA110.
for 25.00 Traivs will include the MY specific install directions.

Other will be along with their opinions as well, read through all of them prior to making a decision.
Good Luck

A 50 buck setup (Crimestopper is very easy to install) will work fine for what you want. I have used the CS865 system in my 2004 STX and now have a Powercode Deluxe installed. The Crimestopper unit was easier, smaller, quicker, to install. And cost a lot less, usually.
Power code and their retail unit Code Alarm are very nice, but you may not need OEM looking Fobs and all the extra features.
You may also consider getting an alarm rather than just a keyless, as they hook up almost exactly the same, fit in the same place, cost very little more and give you the extra of having an alarm.
