Help: Rear turn signal & break light out
Help: Rear turn signal & break light out
My 2001 SCAB has a left rear blinker and brake light that is out. I have checked the fuses (under the hood and under the steering column) as well as replaced the bulb with a new one. Still no luck. I also listened to the flasher to make sure it was clicking, and it is clicking just fine (rapidly of course, to indicate there is a problem). Plus, the front left blinker and both right side blinkers are working fine, so I don't think the flasher is the problem. Then again, I'm not all that savvy when it comes to working on vehicles.
The local shop will charge me over a $100 to check the system out...
Any suggestions would be MUCH appreciated!
Thanks.

Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds and inspect the connectors at the multifunction switch for loose and/or backed out pins. The lock tabs that hold the individual pins in place in the connector shell often break, allow poor/intermittent contact to the switch.
Silly question, did you check the ground on the connector to a good known ground point, like the trailer plug ?
With both elements ( turn and marker ) out on the same side, I might check that first, before taking the cover off to get to the MFS.
The colors from the '01 EVTM :
Stop / Turn : Light Green with a Orange stripe
Marker : Brown
Ground : Black
If it is the ground side, and not a socket problem, then the next place is the splice in the harness betwen the driver's side and the pass side, as the harness shows the same ground point G104. There seems to be a splice towards the pass side, there is no grid locator for splice S401.
Start with an Ohm meter between the black wire on the lamp holder to something known working like the trailer plug.
Just my thought, if it was only the rear turn signal that was out, and the marker lamp still worked, I would take the route of the MFS at that point.

Forgot a simple check....
Take a meter to the trailer plug, and see if you have the left turn signal there.
That is from the same circuit ( light green with an orange stripe ) as the rear turn signal, at splice S148, which is before the tail lamp socket.
If you use the ground and the left stop/turn signal in the trailer plug, and it works...the MFS is good.
Remember to have a good ground test point ( i.e. check that your trailer ground is good ) prior to testing this and the items above.
Sorry don't know why I did not catch that first.
