Stuck in 4X4 Please help
Hey guys,
I have a 03 F150 FX4 with shift on the fly four wheel drive. Today when pulling off the side of the highway (hunting spot) I switched the truck back into 2 wheel drive as always, but the dash still reads 4X4. I slowed down to 20mph and tried again and again but the light wont got off. The guy at the gas station said I maybe blew a cylinoid and am stuck in 4X4. Then on the way home i was trying to feel if it was really in 4x4 by taking tight turns, and no hopping, when I moved the shifter to actual 4x4 position it would hop. So I am thinking the computer or something just thinks I am in 4X4. Should I reset the comp? what else would that effect? and of course how do i do that?
Please help me out guys Im stressin here.

There's a contactor plate on the side of the t-case that tells the GEM module the position of the t-case lever/shaft. It's possible that the contacts are stuck or the plate that moves somehow came dislodged from the handle. It may cause the system to keep the center-axle disconnect on the front axle engaged, so it would sound like you're still in 4wd due to the extra drivetrain noise, even though the two driveshafts are not locked together.
The fix? I'd start by checking the terminals on the transfer case connector. I don't have the schematic in front of me, so I can't tell you the wire colors offhand.... I'll see what I can dig up tomorrow.
