Question Batt light comes on then off

It isnt in my vehicle but my mothers, its a 02 ford escape, In dec batt light would come on -stay on for a few mins then go out, I checked the batt and alternator seemed ok, last wek of dec i was driving it, it came on for me the head lights dimmed fan for the heater slowed down so i knew it was the alternator, took it to a advance auto they checked it for free said yes the alternator was putting out the correct volts but not enough amps, replaced alternator. Now a month later mom said light came back on for a few mins but she went over some RR tracks and it went out, any suggestions?? loose terminals? corroded?? I didnt do the alternator myself I tried, LOL you have to take apart the front suspension on the escape to get the alternator off very bad placement

Check the wiring from the alternator to the battery. Corrosion inside that line will cause intermittant problems

I also have an Escape with my F150. The light you see on the instrument panel is decieving. It may be the coolent light instead of the battery light (it looks like a battery but is really a radiator).

If it is the coolent light, the coolent resevour (sp) is low and needs to be refilled. The light is on in the morning when the engine is cold, but goes off when the engine is hot and the coolent expands into the resevour. A jolt may jiggle the float sensor in the resevour to turn off the light.

I had the same light come on and also thought battery, but it was the coolent. Please review your manual as there is a special coolent used in these vehicles, not the green stuff.

FYI the newer Escapes do not have the resevior sensor anymore because of too many complaints like yours.

Good luck.
