Tachometer

I have a 2002 Ford F-150 XL. It doesn't have a tach and I want one. I don't want to have an aftermarket tach though. I was wondering if I bought an instrument cluster from a 2002 F-150 XLT if I would be able to install it in my truck and how. Will it read the mileage on the wrecked truck or the mileage on my truck? I might be wrong but I figured that Ford would use the same wiring harness for all models of the F-150. I would like to know if this is true or false. If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Nope. Use the search button, this has been discussed alot. The PATS system wont allow you to do this swap unless you have the truck and the new(used) instrument cluster BOTH at the dealership to be reprogrammed. I have a 02 F150 XL 4.2L 5spd, and bought a Sunpro tach to install on the column. Thats costing me $35, you might well spend $300+ doing the instrument cluster, depending on part cost, labor(if not a DIYer)and programming cost. It can be done, but remember that the used cluster you want to put in your truck will carry the same mileage onto yours. Thus dealerships won't throw a 32K mile scluste ron a 80K miles truck. I believe they can reprogram the miles too, not sure. hope this helped explain

Actually this just saved me the time of searching. I have a similar problem. 2000 Regular cab, 5-speed and no tach. I guess I'll go with the new a-pillars instead

Thanks!
