Loose wire on starter
Loose wire on starter
(not forgoten about my foglights, just havent had the chance to get more fuses yet
)
About a month ago I was having difficulty starting my truck. Battery was good, batter cables good and clean, turns out that the wire that ran from the starter to the coil was coroded (sp?) where it makes contact with the starter. Took it to a friend with a garage and he cleaned it off. That fixed the problem for the time being anyway.
All had been well up untill two weeks ago when I droped it off for an oil change, they said that they left the key in it while it was off and it wouldn't start back. They thought it might be an anti-theft feature, but I don't have any type of anti-theft on my truck. They said that they left it sitting for a few minutes, came back and it started right up.
All had been well since then untill this weekend. In the past three days it has only started a handfull of times on the first try.
On my starter there are two wired that are connected to it with a bolt on the end facing rear. On the front of the starter there is a wire that connects with a slip connector. To get the truck to start, all I have to do is wiggle the slip connector and it fires right up. I've tried pressing it down as far as it will go on the starter, but that doesn't seem to help. Seems that as long as I just wiggle it a little bit it will start with no problems. I assume that it is still the factory starter. I've not had it changed, but about three years ago I did have the brushes replaced in it.
Does this wire need replacing, if so what does it go to? (or is this the wire that I had problems with a while back, that runs to the coil?) Or mabey just the metal end on the starter that it goes too. It looks like the 'blade' is just bolted on so shouldn't be a problem. I'm just lucky that so far we've had decent weather recently, I don't fancy the idea of having to crawl under my truck when it cold and raining just to sweet talk some wires
Thanks!
