Thermometer reading is off

My 2001 xlt has the overhead console with thermometer and since like October its been reading about 10 degrees above the actual temp. I know its not really 42 degrees and snowing Is there any way I can reset this, what does the dealer have to do to fix it? Thanks!

I don't htink I have ever seen one of these that works properly. The temp unit is up front, somewhere around the hood latch. Make sure its not to clost to the radiator, as the heat given off can throw the reading off even further. Expect a few degrees off no matter what though

Had same problem temp was like 20 degrees more than the outside temp replaced the sensor and works great for wanted $100 for it go to a auto parts store its less than $20 I went to advance auto parts it was a GP Sorensen Part Number: 77919006 it is also available at many other auto parts stores but it works great now. The sensor is in front of the radiator to get to it remove the black plastic cover and its on the driver side you will see it cant miss it hope this helps.

I don't know if this is the case on Ford's, but on my dad's Oldsmobile Bravada, the sensor was part of the interior heating and cooling system. His sensor went bad during the summer, and the a/c system wouldn't work. For what it's worth!

Regards!

Well I've been using my heat and it works great, its just the temp is off by 10-15 degrees. Thanks davidshick2! Cheap fix, is the sensor hard to replace or just pull off the old one and put the new one on?

Just pull the backet of the body once you remove the plastic cover the head is a 8mm I beleive and unplug the old one I had to add a little wd-40 to the bracket to unscrew the sensor once you get it out just swap them pretty easy and fast hope this helps

Mine too

A couple months ago I started having problems with the temp display in my 2001 XLT. It seems accurate at startup, but them it starts to climb sometimes up to 90 degrees when it's in the 20's out. I haven't messed with it yet. I think I'll look for that sensor. I'll try to let you know what I find.
