So if that's the case, how many fobs can be programmed into the RAP/CSM?

Also, why in the world is the dealer saying it can't be done? (One fob controlling multiple vehicles). You would think that anyone owning more than one Ford vehicle would want to do that and the dealership would be full aware of being able to do so.

EDIT: Since I don't have my '05 manual on me at the moment, I also looked at the '04 manual online. I now see where it states up to 4 transmitters may be used. I also took note of the wording in the instructions.. which would lead one to believe that the vehicle actually would program the transmitter....

Within 20 seconds, program a remote transmitter by pressing any
button on a transmitter. The locks will cycle once to confirm that the
remote transmitter has been programmed. (If more than 20 seconds
pass before pressing a remote transmitter button, the programming
mode will exit and the procedure will have to be repeated.)

• Repeat the previous step to program additional remote transmitters.
The locks will cycle once to confirm that each remote transmitter has
been programmed.

• When you have completed programming the remote transmitters, turn
the ignition to the 1 (OFF/LOCK) position or wait 20 seconds. Again
the doors will lock/unlock to confirm programming has been
completed.

Well, whether the fobs actually get programmed or do the programming.....

I just found out the dealership doesn't know what they're talking about.

I now have 4 remotes that will operate the locks on either the Escape or my F150.

Cool, thanks for having 2 Fords to get to the bottom of it !! The rest of us are just posers with 1 Ford to our names

Now just remember to keep the PATS keys away from each other when starting it

ya- the whole thing of truck keys working on multiple cars is actualy very common- especialy on older vehicles. i used to have a suburban, and i could use the keys from that to open the door to my friends suburban as well. luckly though, he couldnt open mine. also, in talking to an EMT one time, he told me about a time when he needed to get to a person that was passed out in a locked vehicle, so he simply pulled out his truck keys and opened the door. whatever, im fine with my false sense of security!

Both hanging on the same keychain...... so far so good. Neither vehicle has had a problem with that.

Actually, I hadn't heard about that.... has that caused problems?

Only if the keys are close together/ touching. There is a section in the manual about not having items like speed passes, swipe cards, and the likes touching the PATS key when starting the truck. Sorry that was more of a joke, then a WTFO statement.
I had some intermitten crank no starts ( blinking theift light ) when I first got my truck, and after moving the speed pass to another ring, so I could cup it with my pinky, ring, and middle fingers, the gremlin went good bye for ever, so I was just being sloppy with starting my truck. Again it was more of a joke, maybe just something to keep in the back of your mind if you get a theift light for some unkown reason.

Probably a poor choice of words by the manual's author. The remote fobs are transmitters-only.

Each transmitter has a unique signature code that it sends every time any button is pressed. The receiver in the vehicle has to be programmed to recognize the fob as an authorized "user".

All I needed was to add remotes to my receiver. I got new units for about 1/3 dealer price for my 95 & 99 Lightnings on -

http://www.ThePartsYouNeed.com

They seem to have remotes & instructions for everything on their site.

I need to do some fob consolidation, 95 lightning, 97 expedition,99 Lincoln, 06 F150.. I think the Lightning and the Expedition are the only two that can be programmed to use the others fob.. Throw in a 05 F150 worktruck and its a PATs key and fob pile when hunting keys.

Book says 4 remotes... unless you have the fleet option turned on, then it's either 12 (?) or unlimited.
