2 problems, help?

I just bought a 99 f150 xl sport, and i absolutely love it. On the down side it has 2 minor gliches i guess you could call it. 1) The light over the bed of the truck does not come on much when you hit the brakes...actually it probably only comes on about 10% of the time...does anyone know why that would be? 2) Whenever you close the doors it likes to say the door is still "ajar" and the lights stay on inside the cab. any ideas on how to fix these problems? thanks

NOt sure on the Third Brake Light problem, but the dome light problem is common, and just requires some routine maintenance of the pin switch, which is part of the latch mechanism inside the door. Just spray your favorite penetrating oil in the latch and exercise it a few times to loosen the switch up.

Welcome to the board, enjoy your stay, lots of great info here...

My wife's Taurus has the "Door Ajar" problem. The best solution I have found is an electrical parts cleaner. It's always her driver's side door and if I spray into the door latch (on the door) it frees it up for quite a while. Like Matt said, maintenance thing.

I would start on the brake light problem by disassembling the light and then check it with a volt meter. Have a buddy press on the brake several times and see if you are getting a good signal. If not, you may have a short in the wiring or relay. I suspect it is either a bad connection in the light, a bad bulb, or some corrosion in the light unit that you can clean out. It might be one of those "take apart and put back together" fixes. That would cause any dirt to get shaken out.
