4X4 switch only works when stopped

i don't know if this is electrical or not, but my 4X4 switch only works when i am at a stop. Meaning it will only shift to 4 high when at a dead stop, it will not shift on the fly. any help would be greatly appreciated. Also i don't know if this is related but my OD switch on my gear shift quit working altogether around the same time.

The OD switch failing is likely a coincidence as the two problems have nothing in common.

It's quite possible that either the coil that synchronizes the front and rear output shafts has failed, or the speed sensor that feeds back telling the system that the shaft speeds are the same has failed. Those are the ony two components that come to mind.

The fact that it will engage when stopped (i.e. both shaft speeds are zero) that leads me to believe there's something awry with the synchronizing system.

Not sure if that helps any.... without a tester to connect the system to in order to see the in/outputs, it's tough to troubleshoot it.
